DOMAIN I-DESIGNING INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT TO PROMOTE STUDENT LEARNING
Competency 002: The teacher understands student diversity and knows how to plan learning experiences and design assessments
that are responsive to differences among students and that promote all students' learning.

This competency tells me that a true teacher should be willing to work with students from all backgrounds.
This statement covers more than simply race. It encompasses differing learning styles, family backgrounds and language
differences. If we are to function and be successful teachers we must be more willing and open to explore all opportunities
to reach these diverse groups.

DOMAIN I-DESIGNING INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT TO PROMOTE STUDENT LEARNING
Competency 004: The teacher understands learning processes and factors that impact student learning and demonstrates
this knowledge by planning effective, engaging instruction and appropriate assessments.

This competency teaches me that I must always be on my guard as a teacher. I can never relax completely under the assumption
that I have figured everything out about teaching and the students I instruct. I must be aware of the way my students are
reacting to my teaching and I need to be prepared to alter my teaching if I need to in order to reach students.

DOMAIN II-CREATING A POSITIVE, PRODUCTIVE CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
Competency 005: The teacher knows how to establish a classroom climate that fosters learning, equity, and excellence
and uses this knowledge to create a physical and emotional environment that is safe and productive.

This competency tells me that the classroom atmosphere, for better or worse, will be my responsibility. It will be my
task to set an appropriate mood for learning. I must be sensitive to my students and firm when necessary. I must above all
place their concerns over my own.

DOMAIN II-CREATING A POSITIVE, PRODUCTIVE CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
Competency 006: The teacher understands strategies for creating an organized and productive learning environment
and for managing student behavior.

This competency reminds me that I must utilize the knowledge I have gained about successful classroom management
techniques to create a successful classroom situation. I must recall the techniques I have learned in the
classroom and I must also listen to veteran teachers for advice in the hopes of gaining even more insight into successful
classroom management.

DOMAIN III-IMPLEMENTING EFFECTIVE, RESPONSIVE INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT
Competency 007: The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for communicating effectively in varied
teaching and learning contexts.

As a teacher I need to be aware of, and willing to use, whatever techniques I can to get through to students. This requirement
will demand that I become a lifelong learner. I will constantly be studying and reading to better myself and I will be open
to suggestions from my peers and administrators as to my bettterment in the classroom

DOMAIN IV-FULFILLING PROFESSIONAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Competency 011: The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in children's education and knows how
to interact and communicate effectively with families.
|
As a teacher I must do my best to understand the family backgrounds of the students I teach. I must also be willing
to partner with the families of my students to see that the best interests of each child are considered. In this situation
I must get rid of any preconceptions I have about families and parental involvement in schools and understand the vital importance
of having family input. Opening up to family involvement will be a key component in becoming an effctive teacher.
